America's Smallest Post Office

This is a pastel painting done on dark gray pastelmat paper. I wanted to convey the bright sunny day of southwestern Florida while retaining the rustic feel of the tiny building as well as the roughness of the pavement. The paper is relatively smooth but to my surprise it allows for the application of several layers of pastel. The post office is located in Ochopee, FL at the northwestern edege of the Everglades.
